June 2007 - Subway Beach Fest

For our June club fly, we were asked to participate in the Subway Beach Festival on Nickel Beach. It was a warm, sunny day and 43 kiters put on a spectacular show for the festival. Kiters cars lined the beach, and colourful kites were filling the sky.

There was a sandcastle competition and live entertainment for the kids. Bob White had kite kits for anyone who wanted to build there own kite. Several club members helped the kids cut out, tape and attach strings to the colourful butterfly kites.

By mid afternoon the wind picked up and Gary got out his big inflatable fish. I think it tried to eat several kites and the port-a-potties!

At the end of the afternoon, the sky had been filled with many different kites flown by at least 5 different clubs. The only problem now was how to get the cars out of the sandy beach and onto solid ground. As far as I know, everyone got out safely. All in all it was a beautiful day for kite flying and we put on a great show.

July 29th is the next club fly back at the regular spot, HH Knoll Park (Lakeview Park) by the marina. This is the fly before our big festival for Canal Days. There will be a short organizational meeting sometime during the fly to take care of any last minute arrangements. Hope to see all of you at the end of the month.
