May Monthly Kite Fly
It was another day with good winds off the lake, but overcast and a raindrop or two. 10 fliers came out to brave the 16kph winds and get a kite or 2 in the air. Although the winds were off the lake like last month, the temperature was warmer. We only needed a sweater or wind breaker to keep comfortable.
Bob Luft (I hope I spelled that correct) was testing out some of his creations. Every time I turned around he was getting a new kite out. I think he was going for a record to see how many different kites he could fly in a single day.
Bob White arrived fashionably late and got out a new kite purchased in Grand Haven for half price. It's the kite on the left that has the tail. A very nice sized dragon by Premiere. The winds were perfect to test it out.
June 24th will be our next fly. This will be held at Nickel Beach, a park on the other side of the canal. There are signs that direct you there from Highway 3. This is an event known as the "Subway Beach Festival". Everyone should have got an email about this, so you know all the details. This park has an admission fee, but as kiters we are getting in free. Just show them your name tags to get in. I believe that we are expected to be flying (weather permitting) from noon to 4:00 pm. There is also a kite making area for kids. Bob found a very simple, colourful butterfly kite pattern that he has duplicated on an 8 1/2 by 11, stiff paper. The kids can assemble these kites in about 10 minutes and then go and try them out. This sounds like a good family event, so tell your friends to come out and have a good time.
See you all at Nickle Beach on the 24th!
